“ato by Ato Matsumoto” F/W2007 Ninja Hood Puffer Vest
Ato Matsumoto is a Japanese fashion designer label founded in 1993 and still active today.
I believe Ato’s early work was heavily influenced by Vexed Generation, the British avant-garde technical label best known for its iconic Ninja Hood jacket. The last four images are taken from Vexed Generation’s campaigns from the 1990s.
Featuring riri zippers throughout, the garment can be worn in multiple ways depending on how the zips are configured. The back is almost entirely open, held together only by a single webbing strap. An exceptionally rare piece from Ato’s early archival piece.
